Guide To Selecting The Right Quick Connect Coupling
July 27, 2015Functions of a needle valve
August 31, 2015Many carburetors on the market today use needle valves. The needle jet is actually a long, thin rod that is tapered at the bottom, placed in the inlet side of the main jets. This rod responds to the movement of the throttle. As it is lifted out of the main jet, more fuel is allowed to flow in; conversely, as it is dropped in the jet, the fuel flow lessens.
At SEALEXCEL, as leading pipe fitting manufacturers we like to keep our clients updated on the latest technologies in our industry and how they can be applied practically. If you find yourself working around carburetors more than often, you could definitely use these handy tips to clean the needle valves present in there. All you need to are screwdrivers, a commercial carburetor cleaner and a 90 degree scribe:
Cleaning the needle valve
- Remover all the screws using a screwdriver and then push the roll pin out of the accelerator arm pivot with the scribe. This is the part that depresses the accelerator pump when the throttle is opened. Lift the arm out of the supporting fulcrum and then lay it aside while it is still connected to the throttle linkage.
- Next, disconnect the rod to the choke plate by removing the retaining clip on the base of the rod where it is connected to the actuator arm. Do this using the scribe.
- Lift the top of the carburetor intake and do it slowly so that you don’t damage the gasket. You will see two long thin rods that are suspended in the center of the top with tapered ends. Next, remove the two main metering jets on the bottom of the float bowl with your screwdriver.
- Spray carburetor cleaner through all the holes you see, especially the ones where the main jet was taken out. Use the tube on the carburetor cleaner so that you can apply direct pressure to the holes, which will later blow out the entire passage. Allow everything to dry.
- Also clean the needle valves with the cleaner and inspect them later for imperfections. The main needle valve will not function appropriately if bent or broken at the ends.
- Next, lift the top of the carburetor, then lower is slowly to align the rods with the primary meter jets. This can be frustrating, so be patient and keep trying until you get it right.
- Install all screws now then tighten them. Push the choke rod in and insert the retainer clip.
Using these systematic instructions you can proceed to cleaning the carburetor. Whether you are looking for pipe fitting or needle valve manufacturers, feel free to get in touch and discuss your needs today!
